Elderly and the Gaming Industry Go Hand in Hand

Helping children or being charitable to the cause of the younger generation comes easily, but helping seniors is a path of social responsibility.

Helping children or being charitable to the cause of the younger generation comes easily, but helping seniors is a path of social responsibility. Many have faced the challenges of caring for our aging loved ones and during this time there is great comfort in knowing you are not in this journey alone.

Elder care was a role that I immersed myself in during my career with Harrah’s Entertainment. Unusual statement…no, not really. Elderly and the gaming industry go hand in hand as it provides entertainment in retirement, even if it is in the form of gambling. This sure made a heck of a lot more sense than our competitors who were making charitable contributions related to children’s charities who were not old enough to gamble. They got the feelgood part right but missed the target on the correlation.

It was not until the ingenious new talent joined the Harrah’s Entertainment Government and Communications department headed by the prior mayor of Las Vegas, did we realize the impression we were about to bestow on the gaming industry as a good corporate citizen to not only the communities we operated but seniors across the country.
